QALQILIYA (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces on Tuesday detained a 21-year-old man at a flying checkpoint in Qalqiliya in the northern West Bank, witnesses said.

Bashar Mahmud Shtewi was detained while trying to cross a temporary checkpoint near Jinsafut village, locals said.

Three of Shtewi's brothers are in Israeli jails for participating in protests in Kafr Qaddum, they added.

An Israeli military spokeswoman did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Kafr Qaddum holds a weekly protest against the decade-long closure of the village's main entrance. The village lies beside Jewish-only settlement Qedumim.

Israeli forces have detained dozens of Kafr Qaddum residents in a series of night raids on the village in recent months.
