Description
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) – The Israeli municipal council of Jerusalem demolished on Saturday night several stores belonging to Palestinian residents of Jerusalem near the Old City’s Damascus Gate.
Local residents told Ma'an that four stores were being demolished. The stores were set ablaze suspiciously about a week ago, they noted.
One of the owners, Samir Salaymah, said, "the owners were surprised when they saw large numbers of Israeli police officers escorting laborers who started to demolish the stores without prior notice."
Israel captured East Jerusalem in a 1967 war and later declared it part of its undivided capital, but its claims are not recognized abroad.
