PA security forces 'arrest 4 in Jenin'

03:00 May 11 2012 Jenin

Description
NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Palestinian Authority security forces on Friday arrested four men in the northern West Bank city of Jenin, a security source said.

Forces arrested Nizar Guadreh, Qadre Seedan, Sati Awawdeh and a fourth man, a security official told Ma'an. They were transferred to Jericho prison, he added.

The official did not disclose the reason for the arrests.

On Thursday, spokesman of the West Bank security services Adnan Dmeiri said forces had arrested three men suspected of opening fire at the home of the late governor of Jenin Qaddura Musa on May 1.

Musa left his home with security chiefs to investigate the incident when he suffered a heart attack that killed him, police spokesman Mujahid Rabiya said.

Dmeiri said forces had uncovered the circumstances of the shooting but that investigations were ongoing.

On Monday, the district's commander Radi Asida told Ma'an that corrupt officers were responsible for the security chaos that preceded the deadly incident.

Authorities overlooked the corruption "for some time," Asida said.

Officials say a number of PA security officers had been arrested on various charges as part of a crackdown on the city in the wake of the shooting attack.

Newly-appointed Jenin governor Talal Dweikat has vowed to improve security in Jenin, which was known as a center for Palestinian fighters during the second intifada.

In April, a man was killed in shoot-out with Palestinian security forces near Jenin.
