A Palestinian woman was shot Thursday at the entrance to a settlement in the West Bank, on the outskirts of Jerusalem, after attempting to stab security guards with a kitchen knife.
According to Israel Police, the 26-year-old woman from the Palestinian village of Abu Dis arrived at the checkpoint at the entrance to the Ma'aleh Adumim settlement early on Thursday. She was holding a knife and attempted to stab civilian security guards that were on duty. In response, the guards shot her.
Her condition was not immediately clear.
The attempted stabbing attack comes on the heels of a recent escalation between Israel and the Palestinians - both in the West Bank and in Gaza.
On Wednesday, Israeli forces entered the Old City of Nablus to arrest a number of wanted Palestinians, killing 11 and wounding 102 others in the intense confrontations with residents that ensued.
Early Thursday, six rockets were fired towards Israel from the Hamas-controlled enclave. In response, the IDF launched aerial strikes targeting a weapons depot and a facility used to store arms.
