RAMALLAH, Monday, August 15, 2022 (WAFA) - “We made a mistake in the house,” said one of the Israeli occupation soldiers simply justifying to the mother of Mohammad Ibrahim Shaham, 21, the execution of her son in cold blood in front of his family's eyes.
At 3:30 in the morning, Ibrahim Shaham woke up frightened by the scary knocks at the door of his apartment on the third floor of a building in Kufr Aqab, a Palestinian neighborhood north of occupied East Jerusalem located behind the separation and apartheid wall.
Seconds later, the door was blown up. Soldiers broke into his apartment and shot at his son, Mohammad, who was standing next to him, hitting him in the head.
"Mohammad must have thought that thieves were trying to break into the house, so he jumped from his bed towards the door, and as soon as he got there, the soldiers blew it up and immediately fired shots from a gun with silencer towards his head," Shaham's mother said.
“I shouted at the soldiers, and one of them told me that they had come to the wrong house and they also shot by mistake even though they blew up the door of the house and killed Mohammad immediately without warning and without even checking his identity,” she added.
"I tried to help Mohammad, and I grabbed his hands. He looked at me and smiled, and made a faint moaning sound. Then the soldiers pushed me away and prevented me from staying next to him. They took us to the apartment next door," said the mother.
Ibrahim Shaham, Mohammad’s father, said “I called my son’s name several times, then went down to check on him before the soldiers attacked me and my family. They tied us up and then took us to our neighbor’s apartment.”
He said that one bullet hit Mohammad's head from point blank, while three other bullets hit the walls of the apartment. “If I had not taken shelter with my son Sanad behind the door, the bullets would have hit us,” he said.
The soldiers raised Mohammad’s feet on the sink located to the left of the entrance to the apartment and he remained in this position, bleeding for 40 minutes, said Ibrahim Shaham. “I saw him die, and I couldn’t tell my wife about that,” he said, refuting allegations by the Israeli media that Mohammad tried to stab one of the soldiers, stressing that he was shot as soon as the soldiers blew up the door.
The family was held at the neighbor’s apartment for more than 40 minutes. It was unable to know the condition of its son, who was left bleeding for this period, while his father appealed for an ambulance on social media as he was kept at the neighbor’s apartment.
After these very long minutes, Ibrahim saw the soldiers leaving the apartment taking Mohammad with them, covered with a piece of cloth and bleeding all over the stairs.
"The backbone of our household is gone,” said Ibrahim talking with a broken heart about his son, Mohammad. “He was the pillar of our house on whom we leaned. He relied on him for work as he works in construction in Jerusalem."
Mohammad, who held a diploma in servicing air conditioning and refrigeration from Qalandia Institute, is the brother of five siblings, three of whom are blind: Sanad, 23, Ahmad, 20, and Rimas, 12.
Five months ago, on the 15th of March, his cousin, Alaa Shaham, was also killed during clashes with Israeli soldiers at the nearby Qalandia refugee camp.
Since the beginning of this year, 131 civilians have been killed by Israeli army gunfire in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, including 46 killed during the last aggression on the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian Shot Dead by Border Police in East Jerusalem
Palestinians say the man was shot from close range at his doorway, while police claim the man was shot while attempting to stab soldiers

A Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli border police at his home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Kafr 'Aqab. Palestinian reports say the man, Muhammad Ibrahim Shaham, was shot from close range as he was standing at his door.
Israeli police said forces were operating in the neighborhood in search of weapons, claiming that as security forces closed in on the Shaham family's home, family members confronted the soldiers. According to them, Sha'am attempted to stab officers ,who opened fire in response. He was treated at the scene and pronounced dead later on.
Muhammad's father strongly rejected police's version of events. "I have three chldren, two suffer from blindness, Muhammad was the middle child. Without any reason, security forces raided our homes last night, blew the door and brutally entered and directly shot my son in the head for no reason. It was murder for all intents and purposes," he said.
Denouncing the image of a knife released by police, Muhammad's father told Haaretz that his son didn't try to stab anyone. "At three o'clock in the morning, no one sleeps with a knife in hand."
"Every Palestinian, according to the Israeli story, always carries and holds a knife as if it justifies shooting to kill," he said. "My son did nothing."
While Kafr 'Aqab is part of the Jerusalem municipality, Israel's separation wall was constructed right at the town's southern edge, effectively making the Jerusalem neighborhood a suburb of Ramallah.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry in Ramallah condemned the shooting, dubbing it "a continuation of the executions and terror policy carried out by Israel."
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh condemned the killing as an "assassination."
"This is the behavior of mafias and crime organizations which aim for cold-blooded murder without trial." the ministry continued, "The Israeli government is fully responsible for these crimes, which are proof of the lack of international deterrence and protection for Palestinians."
The Israeli military arrested 19 Palestinians throughout the West Bank on Sunday night who it claims were planning attacks, including in the cities of Jericho, Hebron and Ramallah.
Last week, Israeli forces killed Palestinian militant Ibrahim al-Nabulsi on Tuesday following a prolonged exchange of fire, along with another fighter and a 16-year-old boy. At least 40 others were injured, including four in serious and critical condition, according to Palestinian reports.

On Monday dawn, undercover Israeli soldiers killed a young Palestinian man in his home in Kafr Aqab neighborhood, north of occupied Jerusalem in the West Bank.
The soldiers shot Mohammad Ibrahim Shaham, 21, with a live round in the head after storming his home.
His father said a soldier shot Mohammad, who was born in the nearby Qalandia refugee camp, with a live round to the head from point-blank range the moment he opened the door for the soldiers invading his home and proceeded to ransack the property.
The soldiers also fired many live rounds in the property before ransacking it.
His father added that the soldiers left Shaham bleeding for about 40 minutes before they took his corpse and withdrew from the town.
The soldiers also fired several live rounds in the property causing excessive damage.
The father added that the invasion into the property took place around 3:30 at dawn, before one of the soldiers put the pistol against his forehead and killed him.
“This is an assassination in cold blood, just like they did in Jenin, and what they are doing across occupied Palestine,” the father added, “The soldiers didn’t ask for our names, ID cards or ask any questions, they just stormed the property and assassinated by son. Just five months ago, exactly on March 15, the soldiers killed his cousin.”
His cousin’s name is Ala’ Mohammad Shaham, 22, he shot also shot in the head in the Qalandia refugee camp, where the soldiers also shot and injured six other young men with live rounds, who were all transferred to the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah.
The family denied the Israeli military allegations that claimed the Palestinian attempted to stab the soldiers, adding that the Israeli reports are just meant to justify killing him with a cause or justification.
Protests occurred after the soldiers and undercover officers invaded the town, before the soldiers shot at least six young men with live rounds in their legs and caused many to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation and abducting several Palestinians.
