On Sunday, Israeli soldiers attacked the funeral procession of a Palestinian woman in Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron in the southern part of the occupied West Bank.
Media sources said the soldiers attacked the Palestinian mourners, including those carrying the coffin of the deceased woman, Nayfa at-Tous, and struck them with batons.
The soldiers also fired gas bombs at the mourners and tried to prevent them from reaching the local cemetery.
Omar al-Aloul, a relative of the deceased woman, told Palestine TV that the mourners were trying to reach the cemetery at the entrance of Beit Ummar, near the permanent military roadblock, when the soldiers attacked them.
Omar added that Nayfa is the sister of Mohammad at-Tous, 65, from al-Jab’a town near Bethlehem, who was taken prisoner by the army on October 6th, 1985, after the soldiers shot him with several live rounds and repeatedly assaulted him. He survived the attack and was sentenced to life in prison.
Mohammad was the only survivor of an armed resistance group assassinated by the Israeli army in an ambush in Hebron. At the time, the soldiers killed Mohammad Hasan Sa’id, Mahmoud Adwan, Mahmoud Najjar and Ali Khalayla.
